WCC17 --- Wood you be mine?

It's time for another Watercooler Challenge and this time it's all about Valentines.  I wanted to make a Valentine that would appeal to a man and decided to use the Wood You Be Mine? stamp set as well as the Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack.  Inspiration came quickly because those pictures in the Paper Stack just lend themselves beautifully to a masculine styled card.

I chose to use a background of stacked wood.  Perfect, I thought, with the axe from the stamp set and the sentiment "Wood you be mine?"  I began with a base of Naturals White and worked my way up with layers of Basic Black and Real Red.  I decided to have the sentiment in a word bubble (thank you, Word Bubble Framelits) and used Basic Black and Real Red to mat it for fun.  I stamped the axe image and fussy-cut it before colouring it with my Blendabilities and a bit of silver from my Stampin' Dazzle Marker.

The sentiment and the axe are raised on Dimensionals to make them pop.  Three little hearts cut from a piece of Red Glimmer paper using my Confetti Heart Border punch finish up the card.

Better still, link up your own Valentine card and join the challenge.

  3. Heidi, your card totally cracks me up. It's like an axe murderer (implied be mine or else) meets valentines. Love it. Great card.

    1. Thanks so much, Jackie. I thought of Darrah the whole time I was making the card. She's always out there with her wood pile so I added a few glitter hearts to soften the effect. That Advanture Bound paper is great.

    2. Oh my - now I can't stop smiling. Jackie that is hilarious! I just noticed the extra hearts, Heidi. That does help. Surely Darrah chops for love, haha -- Darrah are you there?

    3. You guys are BAAAAD! Now I look at my poor innocent card and see potential axe murderers. j/k Darrah saw it on Facebook.

  4. Love that paper, Heidi! And who would decline your offer with that axe hanging over them?? Cute idea. Grisly, but cute.

    1. Thanks, Buffy. Actually "grisly" would have been adding some red ink to the blade of the axe.

  6. What a fun and creative way to showcase both the DSP and the stamps from the Wood You Be Mine Stamp set, Heidi. That wood pile fairly jumps off the page in dimension and I love the ax handle in the corner with the glimmer red heart. I think it's a heart warming card, rather than grisly, and one a husband or boyfriend would choose to give. Thanks so much for sharing your talents!

    1. Thanks so much for your comments, Penny. I'm in love with that Adventure Bound paper stack and it did work beautifully with the stamp set. While I love the lumberjjack, it was fun to be able to use the set without his cartoon presence.

    1. Thank you so much, Carol. This is what happens to me frequently as well. I won't be impressed by a stamp set and will overlook it UNTIL I see samples by other people. Then, suddenly, I have to buy it for myself.
