PCCC#118 -- Masculine Birthday

My husband isn't a very sentimental man.  You can imagine, therefore, how I felt when he was cleaning out his drawer and said "I don't know what to do with all these cards you've given me.  They're too nice to throw away."  I was really touched.  He always throws away cards.  Apparently not the ones I make, I've discovered.

His birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks.  Of course I'm making him a card, but this time I want it to be even more special since he doesn't throw mine away.  The sketch at the Paper Craft Crew Challenge was perfect, I decided.

Card Sketch 118

My husband's father was a hunting guide in the Canadian Rockies.  My husband, as a result, grew up enjoying the great outdoors and, of course, hunting.  He doesn't hunt any longer, but still loves pictures of wildlife.  The Walk in the Wild stamp set may as well have been specially made for him.  I decided to feature the moose.

For my base cardstock I decided to use the new Kraft cardstock.  My next layer is Marina Mist and then another layer of Kraft but this time embossed using my Woodgrain embossing folder.  For the narrower rectangle I used a base of Marina Mist and then topped it with a layer of the tree pattern from the Santa & Co Designer Series Paper.  I attached that to the card using Dimensionals.

For the final small square I used a base of Early Espresso followed by a layer of Whisper White that I first stamped with the moose image and then coloured using a combination of Blendabilities and Stampin' Markers.  I attached the square to the card using Dimensionals.

I wrapped Linen Thread around the narrow rectangle and tied a small bow.  I added two banners, one cut from the Natural Chevron Ribbon and the other cut from the Mossy Meadow Stitched Satin Ribbon.  My sentiment is from the Sketched Birthday stamp set and I finished up with three Early Espresso Candy Dots.

I'm sure my husband will be keeping this card, too.

    1. Thank you so much, Jan. He's a real fan of blues and browns so I think the card is going to be a keeper. I had fun making it and doing your challenge.

  2. that's nice that he doesn't throw them away. I think I'd be sad if I found out people threw away the cards I made for them... I admit I throw out cards that are mass-made unless they have some good sentiment in them written by the giver themselves, but hand made cards? well not that I get many but if I did, I'd probably keep them forever. :)

    1. Thanks, Ter. It's sad to admit but I'll bet the majority of the cards I make and give people don't last much longer than the event. Too many people don't seem to have that sentimental gene these days.

  3. Gorgeous card. Love the coloring and the moose. The Designer paper is in the background is awesome. That is so totally awesome that your husband saves your cards! Sounds like he needs a special box to keep them in. Oh, your card is featured this week on our Featured Artisan post for Card Sketch 118.

  4. Congratulations Heidi. Your card is featured on the PCCCS blog. It is a very interesting card. I am sure it will be a keeper for your hubby. Mine keeps all the cards I make for him, but they have cameras on them (he is a "collector/hoarder"). Great coloring.

    1. Thanks so much, Louise. That's so funny. I'm a collector/hoarder of cameras as well. I am the proud owner of a couple of those box Rollei 120 cameras and lots of Canon film cameras. Love photography and cameras.
